Dental ImplantsMany people are extremely insecure about their teeth and the role they play in their physical appearance. Whether it be the color, lengths, or shape of the teeth, everyone has their own insecurities revolving around their teeth. Some people are so self-conscious that they go to great lengths to never show their teeth, such as not smiling, avoiding regular get togethers with other people, and even not kissing their partners.

For those that have aesthetic issues with their teeth, there are both major and minor methods to fix the issues. Things such as long-term and severe tooth decay can be unattractive and, if left alone for too long, can cause irreversible damage.

Thankfully, there are some options out there to help address these potential issues. One option that is quite difficult is to just catch all the problems before they become a major issue. However, this requires quite a significant amount of attention and does nothing to stem the problems that come once the damage has been done.

Another option that is often used is the implementation of Dental Implants1 to replace teeth. Dental implants have long been seen as aesthetically useful only, but there are plenty of health reasons to get them as well.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are, contrary to popular belief, quite small. They are usually paired with a custom made crown that is going to be used as a replacement tooth. As such, it is more accurate to see Dental Implants as a type of artificial tooth.

There are usually three different parts to a dental implant. First is the actual implant. The implant is put into your actual jaw bone, and will naturally fuse with the bone, creating a sturdy support for the crown and connector. Further, it will not be as unnatural as other options, making it much safer in terms of possible diseases and infections. Next comes the connector, which is simply there to help connect the crown to the implant. Lastly is the crown itself, which sits snugly on top of the implant itself.

Most dental implants are made currently of Titanium, as titanium has been seen to have a much higher rate of integration into the bone. However, you can still find some areas that use Gold Alloys, Stainless Steel, or even Nickel-chromium alloys, although we advise only the use of Titanium dental implants. This can have great health benefits that allow you room for growth as well.

Dental Implants Preserve Natural Bone

Unlike many other options that are available, Dental Implants work to actually preserve the natural bone that is still available to be used. As the implant sits quite well into the jawbone itself, this means that the jawbone is not left with a gaping hole where the roots were, or filled with nonsensical materials to just plug the gap. Instead, the Dental Implant utilizes the gap that was formed from the removal of the dead or eroded roots, and instead fills that gap with a stronger material.

Improved Comfort and Durability

With Dental implants, you don’t have to worry about taking them out or if they will fit just right after a few weeks. Since they are directly applied to your jawbone, they won’t be coming out any time soon, which covers two significant issues: Comfort and durability.

Since the dental implants are made to last, you know that the durability is going to last as well. Since the primary component used in the dental implants are Titanium, this means that they can take quite a bit more than your other quality metals. With just a bit of care and attention, the durability of the implants will last a lifetime.

Not only that, they are made to directly fit into your jawbone. As such, they need to be perfectly fitted with no space for error. With that in mind, they are made to be as comfortable as possible and to stay that way, since they can’t come out. This is directly contrasting to things like dentures, which can shift and change where they are placed, causing extreme discomfort in some cases.

Less Impact on Other Teeth

One of the important details that many don’t know about is the fact that dental implants don’t cause as much pressure on your other teeth. With dentures and other possible covers for your teeth, the rest of your mouth has to support the weight and size of the new inset, such as shaving down teeth for a tooth-supported bridge. With Dental implants, all the weight is set on the implant itself, meaning the surrounding teeth take little to no burden. This preserves the lifespan of the other teeth, and makes it easier to clean, floss, and take care of them.

Improved Quality of Life

Lastly, the overall quality of life that the dental implants bring you is momentous. Your speech pattern won’t be affected as much, whereas dentures can slip and slide, causing you to have slurred speech, or hiccups every so often.

Eating food becomes much easier. With dentures, food and other objects can easily dislodge them, causing you to do a spit take, or even swallow wrong, which can lead to problematic scenarios. With dental implants, nothing will ever be sliding around, and you will be free of everything except for your delicious food.

Even simple things like appearances become visibly better. Other processes tend to leave extra components, such as dentures leaving a non-real look to them, or even wires that might be placed, such as with a metal crown cover. Instead, the dental implants look just like every other tooth, making you have a full set of teeth that you can happily show off to others.

Although they can be quite expensive, with many procedures ranging within the thousands of dollars, Dental Implants can cut out many long proceedings later on in life. With being able to simply lock in a dental implant, and get rid of the bad roots that were there prior, you can end up with a strong smile, daily comfort, and a lifelong healthy gum line as well. So make sure you consult with your dentist2 if dental implants are the right path for you.
